“Emma Whyte’s talent for creative re-invention and her firm beliefs in sustainable living are evident in every tiny detail of her work”

ABOUT ME I live and work in South Oxfordshire with my family and other animals. I enjoy being outside and love birds, mountains, and swimming in cold water. I began my career as a Picture Editor, researching images and organising photo shoots for newspapers and magazines. Finding new photographers and locations I loved, but admin and office politics bored me silly - I left my plum job without much of a plan. I travelled a bit, learnt about dressmaking, upholstery and furniture restoration and spent time working as a builder’s labourer in France. Here I learnt traditional building and decorating techniques and very bad French, whilst a chance encounter sparked my passion for decoupage. These eclectic skills, a Virgoan attention to detail and an obsessive love of pattern, books and all things old or unloved has matured to create my signature style; a visual feast of extravagantly designed and expertly executed furniture and interiors.

MY ETHOS

WEBSITE MAIN IMAGE - Copy.JPG

I believe in bold, bright and brilliantly positive interiors, spaces that put a smile on your face, a spring in your step and are a personal expression of those who inhabit them.

I also believe we are off to environmental hell in a handcart and that it’s high time we applied the collective brakes.

My personal mission is to reduce interior consumerism. I believe in a mindful approach that treats existing spaces with curiosity and respect, curbing the urge to ‘rip out and replace’ and approaching instead with an interested attitude of ‘what have we here?’.

I am proud to be part of the circular economy; I promote creative conservation and ‘slow interiors’, reviving, re-using and upcycling where possible and by giving my clients the confidence and opportunity to create their own, more lasting sense of style.

As well as an exuberant mix of colour, pattern and styles, my work often features native British birds, animals and trees, highlighting the infinitely beautiful but increasingly fragile species that our small island enjoys. I also donate 10% of my profits to Rewilding Britain, a charity dedicated to the large scale restoration of ecosystems in the UK.
